An Exclusive Interview with Nicollette Sullivan

What sparked your interest in pursuing a career in music initially? Was there a specific moment or experience that fueled your passion?

There was no one specific moment, I’ve had an interest for as long as I can remember, I was being influenced by music from an early age. I grew up with creative parents. I would go to rehearsals with my dad’s band and was always surrounded by musicians. As a child I remember being in the recording studio, even as a baby, or listening to my dad write songs and interrupting him, trying to steal the spotlight

Could you characterize your musical style and the genre(s) you associate with?

My music is a blend of many different genres, I have an eclectic taste in music, at the core is R &B and Neo Soul, but I am not limited to those.

Are there specific artists or musicians who have played a significant role in shaping your sound?

Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Holiday, Nina Simone, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Sade, Amy Winehouse… just to name a few.

Share with us the inspiration behind your most recent single. What triggered the creative process for this specific piece?

I just released my own version of Santa baby by the iconic Eartha Kitt. I’m excited for everyone to hear my next single which I think is going to be a song called Angel Eyes. ( Not Ella’s song, this is an original. ) The song was inspired by an emotional time in my life.

In what way do you anticipate your latest song resonating with your existing fan base and attracting new listeners?

This upcoming EP is very personal in terms of lyrics. In this song, I really opened up about the feeling of staying with someone when you know they are not good for you. The song explores the complexities of a toxic relationship and desire. These are emotions a lot of people can resonate with.

What message or emotions do you aim for listeners to glean from the song?

As I mentioned, the song explores the complexities of a toxic relationship and desire. I hope it can help them on their journeys.

How does this track contribute to the overarching narrative or theme of your upcoming album or project?

My next album is very personal, its like reading my diary. All the songs explore themes and experiences relevant in my life at the time I wrote them.

Maintaining creativity and motivation can be challenging. Do you have any rituals or habits that you find instrumental in sustaining your artistic drive?

I like to journal, this helps, also I enjoy the creative process, it’s part of who I am at my core.

Do you have any upcoming projects or releases that you’re particularly enthusiastic about?

This upcoming EP is probably what I’m most excited about.
