After amassing a considerable following on social media after the release of the viral single ‘Turn Red,’ UK-based artist M Dot R sets out to release his next single ‘Two Halves,’ an ambitious fusion of grime and Dancehall that redefines both genres.
A household name for fans of UK Dancehall, M Dot R entered the scene back in 2016 and has since been on the rise on social media becoming a TikTok sensation off the back of his 2023 single ‘Turn Red’, which peaked at number 14 on the UK Top 40 Charts. Riding this wave of success, ‘Two Halves’ presents itself as a bolder exploration into the fusion of Grime and Dancehall, utilising polyrhythmic beats that have been modernised by overlaying trap hats.
M Dot R describes ‘Two Halves’ as “bold, fun and lighthearted” and that it has “similar vibes to Turn Red.” This much is true, yet M Dot R manages to add new flavour to his sound and uses this song to further develop the melting pot of genres that is his music.
Recorded with Fumez The Engineer after the ‘Plugged In’ session, the track incorporates the use of trumpets and rhythmic electric piano, making the track feel as though it is constantly pushing itself forward. The lyrical content and vocal delivery are what fans would expect from an M Dot R track, with his distinct Jamaican Patois flare and energetic delivery M Dot R is gearing up to set the internet alight once again with ‘Two Halves’.
You can catch M Dot R live throughout the year in the UK and internationally, the details of which can be found on his socials.
