Burlington, Vermont indie-folk-rock artist Lily Seabird is releasing the final single from her upcoming sophomore LP, Alas,. Due in just one week’s time, Seabird’s new record displays her complete mastery of song-craft, seamlessly traveling between moments of whispered indie-folk and gritty alt-country, with hints of shoegaze acting as a vignette around the edges.
Today’s single, “Waste”, is a masterclass in tension. Opening with a somber melody reminiscent of 90’s slowcore acts, Seabird’s vocals on the track are breathless and aching at the same time, at times bordering on exasperation as repetitive guitars cascade around her— meticulously upping the ante until you, and her, are bursting at the seams.
