DORA JAR SHARES INTROSPECTIVE NEW SINGLE “TIMELAPSE”

alt-pop darling Dora Jar shares an introspective new single and visualizer “Timelapse”, out via Island Records. An ode to a life chapter spent living in New York City, where Dora was born, “Timelapse” opens with an ever-burning existential query: “Who Am I?” The cinematic new single sonically illustrates New York City’s endless twists and turns, taking listeners on a journey that mirrors Dora’s urge to self-examine. “Who am I?” is a recurring question I ask throughout my album,” Dora explains. She adds, “When I moved back to New York in my early adulthood, it was the first time I felt like I could have fun living the answer to that question. New York moves so fast, your surroundings blur, and change feels more intense and inevitable. I wanted this song to sound like getting lost in the busy time lapse of life.”

“Timelapse” arrives on the heels of Dora’s single and video “She Loves Me”—a study of the layers of her personhood that references Dora’s internal conversations with the two sides of herself: who she is in a group of people versus who she is alone. In its accompanying music video (inspired by true events and directed by Erica Snyder) Dora blurs the line between her public and her private selves, dancing around a Berlin apartment party in a towel amongst friends and strangers. “She Loves Me” was Dora’s first new release this year following 2023’s “Puppet”—an expressive, glam rock track signaling a new era in Dora’s sound. In February, fellow pop maverick Ashnikko tapped Dora to remix her 2023 single “You Make Me Sick!”.

Born in New York but raised in LA, the 24-year-old singer’s formative sound has already captured the attention of NPR, The New York Times, W Magazine, Billboard, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork and more. Dora quickly grew an audience with gentle indie rock tracks like “Multiply”, and her eclectic, playful, but mature songwriting skills led to the release of her debut EP, Digital Meadow in 2021, followed by 2022’s comfortably in pain. Over the course of 2022, she blessed fans with alluring singles “Bumblebee”, “Bump” and “Spell”, and joined Billie Eilish on her ‘Happier Than Ever World Tour’ in the US, Australia, and New Zealand. After selling out her first North American headline tour in 2022, Dora embarked on a national arena tour with The 1975 in 2023, playing sold-out shows at legendary venues like TD Garden in Boston and Madison Square Garden in New York City. With three fresh singles and a new album on the horizon, Dora Jar is gearing up for an exciting next chapter in 2024.
